Class: 6th to 8th, Lesson 2.2 : Introduction of spreadsheet, Basic operations

Purpose:Students should learn row, column, cell and cell address in Spreadsheet.

No. of Classes

Depending upon the class strength and number of computers (Two classes for 20 students.)

Material Required

Open office (Spreadsheet)

Prior knowledge

Students should know the basics of table like what is a table and what is it used for.

1. What is meant by spreadsheet? Explain the use of spreadsheet.

2. How to add, subtract,multiply and divide by using the operators?


Teacher's Instruction
  1. Teachers should teach all basic and essential features of Spreadsheets.
  2. Teachers should clarify the differences between spreadsheets and text documents.
  3. Teachers should explain the importance of formulas in Spreadsheets.
  4. Teachers should also explain about the autofill feature (drag the autofill handle at the bottom right of a cell) and how this is useful in filling dates, days, or S.No).
  5. Teachers should explain that the numbers at the left most column indicate row numbers and the alphabets at the top most row indicate columns in Spreadsheet.
  6. Teachers should ensure that Students practice all these features.
  7. Teachers can allow students to complete the exercise as a group.
